Book Review: One Day by David Nicholls

Ever since I was a kid I found refuge in the pages of a good book, whether funny, romantic or emotional I’ve always embarked on whatever journey it took me on and felt attached to the characters and saddened when the story ends or when one of the characters dies.

One of my favorite reads was One Day, which was turned into a movie in 2011 starring Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess.

The book is so beautifully written it was hard putting it down for just one minute, I was drawn by Emma and Dexter’s story. The book speaks of their friendship over a period of 15 years on each anniversary of the day they met.

It starts on their graduation, the day they became friends and for the next 15 years on that same day we follow their life and witness their ups and downs and the enduring power of love and friendship.

Whatever happens tomorrow, we had today; and I’ll always remember it”.  — David Nicholls
