Dar El Azrak – A Memorable Lunch By The Sea

As beautiful as summer in Lebanon is, the heat does get to a certain point that makes it unbearable to remain in the city and a trip towards the sea becomes a must for some cooling off and relaxation.

We were delighted when we received our invitation to a Zomato foodie meetup at Dar El Azrak in Jbeil as we’ve been there before and absolutely fell in love with the food and place. Byblos Sur Mer’s outdoor restaurant, Dar El Azrak literally extends over the waters and offers panoramic views of both city and sea.

We were welcomed upon arrival in Al Marsa, which is located right next to Dar El Azrak. A venue where people can eat, drink, sunbathe and swim, they also have diving activities with professional instructors.

Chilled Sangria and warm nachos with cheese and dips were waiting to our delight, we had the opportunity to mingle with the team, have a drink and relax before setting off on a boat ride around Byblos.

After a short boat trip due to windy weather conditions it was finally lunch time and we were starving. Our table was ready and we had the best seats directly at the window with the water right beneath our eyes.

Lunch started with the usual tabbouleh and fattouch as well as cold mezze such as, hommos, moutabbal, nayye combo and chanklish.

The salads were nicely prepared, the ingredients in the tabbouleh finely chopped and the fattouch served with debs el remmen dressing and sprinkled with sumac.

The nayye combo looked too beautiful to eat, but that didn’t last long as we dug into it and enjoyed every bite.

The hummus was excellent, creamy and beautifully presented with chickpeas, pine nuts and parsley. Moutabbal was also very good and is served with pomegranate seeds and walnuts.

The hot mezze landed next, Mekanek, poulpes provencales, poisson au soja, crevettes sauce rouge, rekakat jebneh and french fries.

Rkakat were warm with the melted cheese making them enjoyable with every bite. Poulpes provencales, a truly amazing dish. Definitely recommended.
The poisson au soja is served ready to eat, no need to get your hands dirty. The fish was delectable and perfectly cooked, the sauce was not overwhelming. The marinated shrimps in red sauce were also enjoyable.

For the main platters we were treated to grilled jumbo shrimps and a selection of fried fish. No surprise, the grilled shrimps were wiped out within minutes. The fish and seafood served at Dar is no doubt of high quality and can be savored with every bite.

After a wonderful lunch, the cherry on top was fruits, dessert and coffee. A selection of Arabic sweets with biscuit w raha and kaak with debes. The dessert that stood out was the mafrouke with ashta. Our lunch ended with a nice cup of cafe latte.
